Cryolipolysis
Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive medical procedure designed to eliminate localized fat deposits through controlled cooling. This technique is particularly effective for individuals struggling with stubborn fat areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Principle of Cryolipolysis:
The procedure involves applying intense cold to the targeted fat bulge using a specialized applicator. The applicator generates a consistent cooling effect, typically between -6°C and -9°C, over a period ranging from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area. This controlled cooling induces a thermal shock, causing the fat cells (adipocytes) to undergo programmed cell death, a process known as adipolysis. Subsequently, these fat cells are naturally and permanently eliminated by the body’s lymphatic system over the following weeks. Importantly, surrounding tissues such as nerves, blood vessels, and muscles remain unaffected.
Dr. Chady Kallassy utilizes the CRISTAL cryolipolysis device, a 100% French-manufactured system by DELEO, which complies with European medical device standards.
Ideal Treatment Areas:
Cryolipolysis is versatile and can effectively treat various areas in both women and men, including:
- Abdomen
- Love handles
- Thighs
- Knees
- Chest area
- Chin
Certain areas, such as the thighs, may present more as fat deposits rather than distinct bulges. In such cases, a flat applicator is used to encompass the entire area, ensuring effective treatment.
Before the Session:
A mandatory preliminary consultation is conducted to assess your objectives and rule out any contraindications. During this consultation, a clinical examination and measurements of the targeted fat fold are performed, and photographs are taken. The initial thickness of the fat fold should be between 2 and 10 centimeters. Following the assessment, a detailed consent form and a personalized treatment plan are provided. Typically, 1 to 3 sessions are recommended, depending on the thickness of the fat fold.
Procedure Details:
During the session, you will be comfortably positioned, and a cryoprotective wipe is applied to the treatment area. The applicator is then placed on the fat fold, initiating controlled cooling and suction. Initially, you may experience a sensation of pulling and mild pinching, which subsides as the area becomes numb due to the cooling effect. Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes, during which you can relax, read, or listen to music.
After the applicator is removed, the treated area is massaged for about 10 minutes to stimulate lymphatic drainage and enhance the elimination of fat cells. While the area may feel numb immediately post-treatment, normal sensation gradually returns.
Expected Results:
Results are not immediate, as the body gradually eliminates the destroyed fat cells over time. Typically, a reduction of 20% to 30% in the volume of the treated fat bulge is observed after a single session. Initial results may become noticeable around six weeks post-treatment, with continued improvement up to three months. The outcomes are long-lasting, provided a stable weight is maintained.
Limitations and Considerations:
It’s important to note that cryolipolysis is not a weight-loss solution or a treatment for obesity. Instead, it targets specific localized fat deposits. In rare cases, a phenomenon known as paradoxical adipose hyperplasia may occur, where the treated area increases in volume instead of decreasing. While this is uncommon and not fully understood, it may resolve spontaneously over time or require alternative treatments.
Contraindications:
- Conditions sensitive to cold, such as Raynaud’s disease or cryoglobulinemia
- Pregnancy
- Recent surgeries (within six months) in the treatment area
- Skin conditions like eczema or dermatitis in the treatment area
- Blood clotting disorders
- Current anticoagulant therapy
- Active infections
